About The Designers
Nathan Baraness and Maryna Dague, the creative minds behind Paris-based studio Nathan Baraness / Office, are celebrated for their sophisticated yet unpretentious approach to furniture, interior design, and decorative arts. Rooted in their shared passion for craftsmanship and historical forms, their individual journeys and creative sensibilities intersect in a studio identity that values raw materials, minimalist elegance, and emotional resonance.
Nathan Baraness, a graduate of ECAL (École cantonale d’art de Lausanne), has shaped his design philosophy through rich experiences in Lausanne, Milan, and Paris. His curiosity is boundless, and it leads him to explore the world of antiques, craftsmanship, and various materials, all of which play a role in shaping his distinct aesthetic. His approach balances a deep respect for the material with a minimalist, detail-focused style that emphasizes clean lines and timeless forms. His work is a study in restraint, allowing the inherent qualities of each material to shine.
Maryna Dague, after founding her studio in Paris, has developed an equally compelling design approach, one that is profoundly shaped by her exposure to global cities such as New York, London, and Milan. Her creations are rich in emotional resonance, aiming to evoke memory and sentiment through their sensitive forms and careful treatment of materials. Maryna draws inspiration from antiques and vintage pieces, and her designs echo an appreciation for the past reimagined through a poetic, modern lens. Her works invite interaction, inspiring a sense of nostalgia and intimacy with her forms.
Together, Nathan and Maryna bring their complementary perspectives to Nathan Baraness / Office, creating an aesthetic that is at once restrained and deeply evocative. Their designs are rooted in a respect for heritage and craft, carefully balancing elegance and simplicity with an unmistakable personal touch. Each piece they produce is a testament to their shared values: a celebration of material, form, and the timeless nature of well-crafted design.
About The Product
"Lakes" is a nature-inspired collection of sculptural mirrors designed by French designers Maryna Dague and Nathan Baraness. The collection takes its name from the shorelines of lakes and aerial views of their curved shapes, represented in the design. The designers have emphasized the contrast between the fluid shapes of the glass and the straight lines of the mirrors' supports, made of slabs of wood, brass, oxidized copper, marble, onyx, and other attractive materials. The collection features five designs, including a floor mirror.
